corrupt Backup Copy Job

Post by Pat490 »

I just got a warning message from a Backup Copy Job!

Code: Select all

05.08.2017 05:49:15 :: Disk SERVER1_1-flat.vmdk of VM SERVER1 is corrupted, possible reason: Storage I/O issue. Corrupted data is located in the following backup files: Copy-FS-_FWD2017-07-22T010000.vbk
still the general status says "success".

Now when I look at Restore Points overview, I see:
(...older... OK)
06/02/17 Full OK
06/30/17 Full OK
07/21/17 Full Corrupted
07/28/17 Increment Incomplete
08/04/17 Increment OK

Are the latest backups OK or corrupt? What do I have to do? What about weekly/monthly archival backups?

Are the latest backups OK or corrupt?
The full backup seems to be corrupted, most likely increments depending on it are not restorable as well.
What do I have to do?
Run either restore or SureBackup to see whether restore is possible or not. In the latter case, double check underlying storage device and consider migrating backups from it.
What about weekly/monthly archival backups?
They should be OK; however it's worth confirming.

would it be possible to delete backup files up to 07/21/17 and than next copy job will transfer files again from primary to secondary backup target?

You should be able to delete those restore points from file system manually, rescan repository and then make backup copy job forget about them. This would cause a backup copy job to create new vaild restore point (it wouldn't re-transfer missing points anew, though).

However, the experienced behaviour indicates serious issues with storage system, so, don't turn blind eye to it, as otherwise problems would re-occur.

Thanks.

In this case consider migrating current backups as soon as possible in order to avoid corruption on previous archives. Thanks.
