Defragmentation and compact

Post by perjonsson1960 »

Folks,

Yesterday, which I understand was the 4th Tuesday of the month, I configured several backup copy jobs to perform defragmentation and compact of the full backup file, on the 4th Wednesday (today), but none of the jobs seem to have done that, even though they have run. At least there is nothing in the logs to reflect that. I have seen this before when I changed the date for the health check. Nothing happened on the day I had chosen.

I want to perform the defrag asap. How do I do that?

Regards,
Per Jonsson

Hello,
I agree that today is the 4th Wednesday of the month. So it seems unexpected. That means support is the way to help you out. Please post the case number here for reference.

Thanks,
Hannes

No, they all started from 06:00 AM today, and onwards.

I wish I could submit a case, but even though I became the case administrator a few minutes ago, and even got the confirmation e-mail about it, the support ID doesn't show up in the list. And when I choose "Other" and type the support ID, it says that I need to be a case administrator for that ID... Is there a delay between the e-mail and when it actually starts working?

Check out this thread: vmware-vsphere-f24/compact-and-schedule-t59680.html
I had a similar issue and it turned out to be a bug.

So, I'll just create that registry value and change the day in the jobs to 4th Thursday, and then the compact will happen tomorrow?

It seems that B&R has some issues when it comes to dates and times in continuous backup copy jobs. I have a job that had the "Copy every" time set to once a day at 15:45. At about 14:00 I changed the time to 15:00, but when that time came it chose to completely ignore it, and started at 15:45 as before. No big deal, but I am wondering when the time is actually changed? Do I have to restart the Veeam Backup Service to get the new time to kick in?

I see. Thanks! I just noticed that the job in question started a new copy interval at the new time that I have set. :-)
