Duplication of data in SOBR to a secondary site?

Post by JonVeam »

I have a SOBR setup to the cloud with all that working very well. My servers backup to my local extent, and then those backups are immediately shot to the cloud.

I'd like to ( at a separate site ) keep a mirror of the latest few backups in the SOBR or the SOBR in whole.

Is there a way in Veeam to automatically mirror that stuff? I have the VB&R setup on the secondary site, I see how I can manually download everything, but I'd like it to happen automatically or on schedule. Thank you!

It is called Backup Copy Job. You define a Repository or SOBR on the second site with the Repository Server itself sitting there. Then use a backup copy job to copy the backups to the other site. Backup Copy Jobs have separate retentions definable, but the processing is always incremental. Our Software WAN accelerators help to reduce data further if you have a bandwidth issue.

At my secondary site, I've setup a local Performance Extent, and the same SOBR as the primary site. I can see the backups in the SOBR. When I go to backup copy job and I choose the "objects to process" my SOBR has a size of 0B and nothing syncs.

Not sure what the actual setup is, but it should look like this:

Site1
Backup & Replication Server

SOBR1 with at least a performance tier on the same site (and if you have your capacity tier)

Site 2
You create a new SOBR2 with a local performance tier on the same B&R server on site 1. Make sure that the Repository Server (or RepositoryGateways server if you have SMB/NFS/Dedup) are on.
The Software will be installed automatically when you setup the SOBR.

You create a Backup Copy Job from SOBR1 to SOBR2 to let the data be copied regularly.

The Backup & Replication server on the second site is not needed in this scenario, but you can useit in case Site 1 is down. Only then point it to the Backups by creating a new SOBR with the same folders.

I've got step one dialed and working.

as far as: "Site 2
You create a new SOBR2 with a local performance tier on the same B&R server on site 1. "

I do not understand this. How can I have my site 2 local disks ( performance tier ) be on the same B&R server on site 1? 2 separate sites with no connection between them.

Thank you for your help!

You install a server on site 2 that has a network connection with site 1 (Site-Site VPN or LAN connection for example). Then you use local capacity or your disk system to that server and configure it.

THen you go to the first site Backup & Replication Server and create a Repository on that server or use the Repository Server as Gastway Server for an SMB/NFS share (if you use this as target).

Hope this helps. If not please describe a bit your setup and connections a bit more.
