Export/Import credentials

Post by GianlucaCroci »

Hello,
I've installed a new Veeam B&R for Test, that don't have all the options of my Prod server.
I'd like to know if possible to export and import the Credentials from a Get-VBRCredentials Server to another. I wanna "copy" only this info, and nothing else.
I've seen the PowerShell Command "Get-VBRCredentials" but I've only th name and the Description (no Password).
Thanks in advance

Hi Gianluca,

Are you going to export the users' passwords from the Production server to Test? Not sure it's a safe solution.
Yes, Get-VBRCredentials method does not export passwords.

Thanks!

Yes, I'd like to copy from the Production to the Test environment.

In the Test environment I've no backup jobs, and I'll not have the same ones as in the Production environment, so it shouldn't be a security issue. Also because it's very limited in access.
What I don't want is to create Credentials from scratch, even though I most likely don't need all the credentials currently in the production environment.

Anyway it's just a question. If not, I will proceed to recreate the credentials I'll need.
Thanks

Ciao Gianluca,

Adding to Natalia's comment, I think, the most convenient available way would be to use bulk export/import in VBR REST API. There you could save credentials spec in a separate json file and then import them all in one call to your new VBR server. You would still need to populate specs with passwords as they are not exported, but it could be done with client-side coding in most languages.

Thanks,
Oleg
