Extracting a single backup from a backup store.

Post by tim5700 »

I have a server running Veeam 6 with 4.5 TB of space which is enough to store 15 days worth of backups (reverse incremental). I also have some 2 TB external drives. I want to regularly extract 5 days worth of backups to the external drives to take off site. Is this possible?

If you use reverse incremental, the last backup is always a full VBK.
You can append to the backup job a post-job activity (there is a section for it in the advanced section) where a script copies the vbk file you just created into the external drivers.

OK. I thought it might be that. Thanks.

Next question on this.

My 5TB server produces 15 restore points (one full and 14 rollbacks). My 2 TB external can only hold about 6 restore points. Is there anyway to properly pull a full backup and a few rollbacks out?

A lot of existing topics on how to offload backup files to a removable media, please search the forum for smth like "replicating backups offsite". You can do it either via post-backup job script automatically or manually. Here is a couple of useful threads: Replicating backups offsite and
backup naming when using reversed incremental.
