Backup to tape - Feature request
Hello everyone!
Is it possible to add functionality to tape protection in future updates?
More precisely, it is possible to add the possibility to differentiate the protection required for backup on tape jobs.
Overwrite-protected :
The media cannot be Overwritten during this interval.
+
Append period :
During the append period, data can be added to the media. Any data already on the media is protected against loss.
After the append period expires, and while the overwrite protection period is still active, data cannot be added to the media. Any data already on the media is protected against loss.
For example, you set the overwrite protection period for seven days. You also set the append period for four days to ensure that data is not overwritten for at least seven days. The data can be appended to the media for the next four days. The last data that is appended to this media is retained for at least seven days.
Thanks

Re: feature request - Backup to tape
Hi Giovanni,
What is the purpose of separate append/protect from overwriting options?
If you want to make sure backups are protected, you set the protection period for the media set.
Thanks!

Re: feature request - Backup to tape
Hello,
Thank you for your reply
Currently, if Veeam writes 80GB on a 1TB tape, with 5 weeks protection, that the tape is ejected, it will not be possible to continue writing on that tape for 5 weeks while it is still almost 1TB on the tape.
With the Append period even if the tape was ejected it would be possible to continue writing on the tape.
Thank you for your reply

Re: feature request - Backup to tape
I've got your point.
You may create new media set once a week so several backups will be written on tape.
However, the request is taken into account.
