We are using the enterprise manager to enable selected users to do restores themselves. The users would like the ability to restore files/folders with the option keep to a different location that they can select during the restore.
This because the disk the data resides on is either:
not large enough to hold 2 copies of the data,
or because the storage is used heavily and they want to select a different disk that doesn't impact production that much.
Downloading the data and then restoring the data themselves is not an option because the user working at home doesn't have to bandwidth to download and upload.
This would require that a user performing the restore enters credentials of a user account that is a member of the Local Administrators group on the target machine. Is that acceptable?
Yes that would be acceptable and I understand the use cases where it might be necessary.
However we have uses cases where the users of the enterprise manager are already admin on the system. I would like them to be able to use the veeam account that is already setup for veeam with ample rights. Maybe make that an option in the user / group rights section.
For users who are a member of Local Administrators group on the target VM, there's already a solution for self-service file restore > Self-Service File Restore Portal
