Feature Request: Pooled approach over Automatic

Hello,

Would it be possible to move away from some auto-detect, automatic logic to a pool of resources instead? In a few architectures, you are unable to rely on the current logic and discover border effects. The only way is to go with forced parameters. Automatic Gateway comes first to my mind and proxies follow. The pooled approach could help to make the system a better decision through awareness or make maintenance easier because you would not need to go and change your underlying configuration.

+1 If never understood the logic behind automatic selection for gateways. In the end it's still fixed and we need manually load balance servers for extents. And even this does not help as we cannot estimate how many jobs run on a repository because of so many BJ/BCJ/Offloading (which means some servers have 80 parallel tasks, other none). Maybe it's just this worse with CIFS, but at least there is still a lot of improvement possible.
