I came across a nice enhancement for the Remote Replica from Backup feature... the enhancement would actually be for the scheduling screen in backup/replication job setup.
Currently... the "After this job" selection will start the job after the first run of the selected job even if the selected job has one or more failures.
The feature request:
Add a checkbox to the schedule screen under the "After this job" selection called "After all retries"
This checkbox would start the job only after success or all the selected reties of the previous job have been completed.
Example scenario where this setting would be helpful:
Backup Job 1 = VM1, VM2, VM3, VM4 (Schedule: start at 6:00 PM daily - retry failed VMs = 3 & wait 5 minutes between retries)
Replication Job 1 = VM1, VM2, VM3, VM4 (Schedule: start after Backup Job 1) - using Remote Replica from Backup feature.
Backup Job 1 encounters a failure with VM2, but success for VM1, VM3, VM4... waits 5 minutes and retries... stalls on waiting for resources because Replication Job 1 has started.
Replication Job 1 runs and replicates VM1, VM3, and VM4... gives warning on VM2 that it is corrupt in backup / replica is latest available from backup.
Backup Job 1 retry #1 resumes and successfully completes the backup of failed VM2... whatever condition caused the initial backup of VM2 to fail has been (possibly self-)corrected...
Replication Job 1 does not run again after Backup Job 1 retry #1 success... thus VM2 is not replicated during this set of job runs. (daily in this case...)
With the above feature request... Backup Job 1 could sustain the VM2 failure, and retry to obtain a successful backup of VM2 before Replication Job 1 starts... or at least Replication Job 1 would allow Backup Job 1 to complete all of its set retries before starting, giving Replication Job 1 the best possible chance to have all successful VMs in the backup it is going to read from.
Thanks for considering!
