Feature request: show actual free space on service provider repository

Post by FrancWest » 1 person likes this post

Hi,

our serviceprovider charges the actual used storage space instead of the total used space when using ReFS block cloning. However, the backup repositories tab shows as free space the provisioned space minus the used space. While as for local ReFS repositories, the used space shows way more than the available capacity when using block cloning. On service provider repo's every full using block cloning is counted towards the used space, even when there are no blocks used on the filesystem itself.

It would be nice if the reported free space behaves the same as for local repo's, so actual filesystem space free instead of just the difference between capacity and used space.

Franc.

Hi Franc,

Thank you for the request.

This is for sure not a simple feature to implement, but we'll definitely keep discussing it internally to determine what could be a reliable and long-term solution.

Thanks, since the service provider is charging on actual disks-space used it impossible now to see how many disks-space we are actually using.

Yes, we understand the needs. There is a variety of scenarios when block cloning should be taken into account, but the main problem is there is no existing API or technology that allows pulling this information except the BlockStat tool written by one of our system engineers which cannot be integrated into the product for multiple reasons.

Anyway, we'll see what can be done here. Thanks.
