Not sure if it's something which can already be done but is there any merit in a standalone Veeam utility which can simulate the load of performing functions such as backup, restore and replication. Also simulate the reformulation of incremental backups on a storage device. Test the SQL performance of a configuration if it has any relevance to overall system performance (it might not)
A tool like this would be good for testing kit we've been given for demo by suppliers so we can decide if it performs well.
Maybe it could import logs from your existing backup and give you a comparison to show whether new hardware / software would be faster or slower than present?

If the goal is to estimate the capabilities of the particular environment in general, then why not test it on some real workloads instead of simulation? If the goal is to assess the hardware, then there's the Veeam Ready program that addresses some of these points. Thanks!

I think the goal would be to be able to compare various setups. So you could try changing things to see if different routes through your network are better or different raid configurations perform differently. Without having to install the full B&R product. Just a one-click tool which can give you a quick report on estimated performance.

Hello!
If you're looking for some tools that allow you to quickly estimate hardware performance, I'd suggest to take a look at Diskspd which simulates Veeam B&R disk actions depending on backup chain type.
The network bandwidth might be measured using Iperf.
And this article lists main SQL performance and monitoring tools.
However, this question becomes more sophisticated when we're talking about different hypervisors or storage vendors. Different transport modes can have different read/write logic and can use different API. Processing rate might depend on CBT usage or on block size or on specific operation type, data traffic can go via different networks etc.
Even if we had such tool you would need to add all infrastructure objects (otherwise we don't know how to simulate read/write operations) to this tool and to configure all necessary settings such as block size, CBT usage, blocks exclusions, transport modes, proxies, backup chain modes before any simulation. So it wouldn't be easier and faster than testing Veeam B&R on real workloads.
