Features request - Remove deleted VMs data after X days
As a service provider, we are asking for the creation of a feature request regarding the possibility to make functional the option "Remove deleted VMs data after X days", and this with Forward incremental backups + an active full.

Hi Giovanni, could you please elaborate on your request? This option makes sense for synthetic backup methods only, since with periodic active fulls brand new full backup file is created with actual data from the production datastores.

By the way, there is a subforum dedicated to our cloud and service providers. So, I'd recommend checking it. You can do that by applying to Veeam Cloud Provider group, using Usergroup settings in the User Control Panel. Thanks.

Re: Features request - Remove deleted VMs data after X days
Hello,
As a service provider to we need this options available for incremental with periodic active full backup (with the option "use per-VM backup files" into the repository).
In fact we have a lot of jobs with 7 retention points (Daily job). Those jobs need to retain only seven days per VM.
Daily backups with seven retention points will retain data from six months ago if a vm has been deleted from the job.
We did some testing and with Incremental + Synthetic full, retentions are applied.
Impact in our backup storage is over sized (Several TB wasted)
Thanks

Not sure I follow. Where does it retain the data from 6 months ago, if no backup file exists for longer than 14 days if you are using daily backups with 7 restore points and a weekly active full?fdecome wrote:Daily backups with seven retention points will retain data from six months ago if a vm has been deleted from the job.

Re: Features request - Remove deleted VMs data after X days
Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
We have one job per customer, the customer has the rights to delete his VM from vCloud.
We make a daily backup of the customer organization. Our job is configure like this: Seven retention points, daily backup and active full on sunday, maintenance options : "remove deleted VMs data after 7 days" is checked
But if i go to the Backups viewer, we can see retention points older than the seven (or more) configured days.
This retention points consuming a lots of unwanted storage space.
We can produce some screeshot for this case if you need.

Actually this is unexpected as with your scheduling settings, you should have between 7 and 13 restore points max (depending on the day of week), unless I am missing something. So, please open a support case, and have them take a look.

This is a known issue that existed in previous update. I need to check if it was addressed in Update 3 or not.

Update 3 doesn't include the fix for this issue. It is still scheduled for one of the following updates.

This should be addressed by the upcoming Veeam B&R 9.5 U4 release.
