Getting slack from Bosses/Clients about the true cost of DR

Post by unsichtbarre » 3 people like this post

Hi,

In the process of trying to represent Veeam as a best-of-breed true Disaster Recovery solution, everyone at my company takes a ton of slack from Bosses/Potential clients, and the inevitable reason is that someone has heard of or been offered an "all you can eat DR Solution" for an unbelievably low price! When I offer Veeam Replication at so many dollars per socket (plus resources on both ends!), I hear numbers like $600/month for the whole environment or $10/month per VM!

I have done my homework, as best I am able, and even gotten quotes from providers. Without naming names of specific "DR" services, we all know and understand that these incredibly low prices are nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

The biggest part of the problem is that most of the world doesn't seem to understand the difference between Remote Backup and Replication with dedicated resources for DR.

I have created the following letter (which didn't format well here because it was written in Word). If there is anyone else that finds themselves constantly justifying the true cost of DR, please feel free to use or edit my letter and provide comments.
