Guest OS File recovery list of all versions possible ?

Post by reiner »

Is it possible to get a List of all Backups where a guest OS file is included ?
Based on a Server\path\filename i´d like to see a liste of how many Backup´s are made of that file.
Idealy for each Backup i can see the Last Change Date of the File and the Size of the File.

Example
Path Size in Backup file Change Date Backup Time
\\server01\Share01\folder\Filename.doc 1100 KBytes 25.3.2019 25.3.2019 22:00
\\server01\Share01\folder\Filename.doc 1100 KBytes 25.3.2019 26.3.2019 22:00
\\server01\Share01\folder\Filename.doc 1100 KBytes 25.3.2019 27.3.2019 22:00
\\server01\Share01\folder\Filename.doc 1100 KBytes 25.3.2019 28.3.2019 22:00
\\server01\Share01\folder\Filename.doc 1100 KBytes 25.3.2019 29.3.2019 22:00
\\server01\Share01\folder\Filename.doc 1200 KBytes 1.4.2019 3.4.2019 22:00

This would help me to see when a File has been changed, and how many Backup´s we have got. So when a User Claims the last File Backup is corrupt, i could see that i would have to recover the Backup on 29.03.19 cause it´s the last Backup of chnaged 25.3.2019
I have seen this in Legato Networker, but how do i do this in Veeam ?

Thank you for your support :D

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

You can find out by activating "indexing" and using enterprise manager to search for a file. There you can see the versions.

Best regards,

[MERGED] Restore Guest Files - No oppertunity searching for files?

Post by Flexi_User »

Hi everyone!

we are going to start our virtual environment with VMWare Vsphere 6.7 an Veeam Backup Essentials Enterprise as backup solution. So, if i have a backup, i also need to restore sometimes a file... that shouldn't be a challange.

Is there any chance to search in all repositories of a VM for a special file?

Scenario:
I start Veeam Backup and Replication, navigate to "Backups" -> Disk -> Backup Job 1 - > SVR2019 (backup of my VM where i lost a file)

I see there's an option "Restore guest files" -> "MS Windows" ok, no problem so far!
How can i search in the respositorys for a lost file? I have lots of Backup Repositorys of this server but i don't know the date of my lost file.
Even if i open a repository there is no search option. Do i really have to open every repository and click manually all folders until finding my lost file? (forgot where it was saved)

Even if i know the folder there should be a list of versions of each repository or something:

file;Date Time; Repository
C:\temp\myfile.xls;21.05.2019 09:46:15;"1 day ago (22:00 Dienstag 21.05.2019)"
C:\temp\myfile.xls;20.05.2019 13:25:41;"2 day ago (22:00 Montag 20.05.2019)"
C:\temp\myfile.xls;16.05.2019 08:36:17;"3 day ago (22:00 Sonntag 19.05.2019)"

Is there any chance/workaround for this case?

Thanks in advance!

Should be possible, if you enable indexing feature and use Enterprise Manager with its "Search" functionality.

More information regarding that can be found here.

Thanks!
