Guidance On Moving A Performance Tier that's Rigged To a Scale out Repository

Post by jimerb »

I'm in a home lab environment and need a little guidance from the pros.

I have a working Azure scale-out repository hooked up to a performance tier that backs up a couple of VM's.

I need to move the performance tier to another disk.

I copied the folder that contains the backups from the performance tier to the proper drive. I then tried to add a new location to the scale out repository, but it's giving me this error:

"Unable To Add extent StorageArea because it contains one or more backup files which are not supported by a scale-out backup repository"

I don't want to have the whole drive be the scale out repository just the folder I copied over.

Can someone give guidance on the proper way to move the performance tier that's hooked up to scale out?
Running:
Veeam backup and replication 11.0.1.1261
EXSI 7.0.0 (Build 16324942)

Hi Jim

You should not move the backup files first to the new disk and then add it as a extend.
First add the extend, then use supported methods to move backup files:
- Evacuate: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
- Manually move the files: https://www.veeam.com/kb3100
In V12, extend evacuation will use FastClone.

A new extend can be added by configurating a new simple repository to the folder path. Then add this simple repository to the existing SOBR. Then start moving the files with one of the provided options.

Best,
