help with copy job logic and settings

Post by anglerzac »

How best can I achieve having 30 daily points at my main site and the same at my DR site along with a further 5 monthlys

mainREPO1 - 22TB SAS Discs
drREPO1 - 22TB SAS Discs
drREPO2 - 32TB SATA Discs

I'll be doing a 30 daily reverse incremental onto our mainREPO1
I then want to use a copy job to replicate this data onto drREPO1 at our DR site
From drREPO1 I want to take an additional 5 monthly points onto drREPO2

So in the end I have 30 days available to restore from both sites along
with 5 monthly that I can pull back from the DR site.

I need 6 months in total so maybe I need 6 monthly? I was hoping to include the 30 days.

I think I need
1 copy job taking the whole of mainREPO1 to drREPO1 with the 30 daily increment
1 copy job taking the whole of drREPO1 to drREPO2 with 5 monthly increment

I would point these at the whole of our vSphere and as they run continous let them pick up the new data from normal backups going onto mainREPO1 each day?

it looks like this is possible but I will have to have 2 daily increments on the drREPO2 because I can't just have a monthly in the copy job settings

That`s correct. You need one backup and two backup copy jobs.

Yes, based on your description you need 6 monthly backups in GFS retention.
