Hello,
I have some technical questions regarding a new Veeam deployment.
Appreciate any comments/advise on below questions.
Here is the setup details:
• 4 x Hyper-V 2019 hosts in a cluster and multiple VMs
• 1 x Windows Physical Server (Veeam Backup Server) and 1 x HPE StoreOnce (as Backup Repository)
• Backup server will be installed in Site-A with Hyper-V servers and shared storage (Nimble)
• StoreOnce will be installed in Site-B and used as backup repository
• Veeam will take backup from Hyper-V VMs and send it to the StoreOnce over IP WAN link
• Some of the VMs are using Veeam Agent based backup
And here are the questions.
1. Based on below URL, seems like Nimble Storage Snapshot integration is not supported with Hyper-V 2019 cluster/hosts (It’s supported only for VMware). Is it still applicable to VBR v11?
microsoft-hyper-v-f25/nimble-integration-t71301.html
2. In this setup, what is the recommended backup approach?
Should we create 1 x backup proxy VM inside Hyper-V Cluster?
Or should we use Off-Host Proxies + Direct SAN backup approach? (i.e. manually present all datastore LUNs from Nimble Storage to Backup Server) ?
Or Any other suggestion?
3. To deploy Off-Host Backup Proxy, we need to install the VSS hardware provider on the off-host proxy and the Microsoft Hyper-V hosts. Is it correct?
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
Is there any documentation for VSS hardware provider configuration for the Veeam server ?

Re: Hyper-V 2019 Cluster + Nimble Storage + StorageOnce
Hello,
1. yes, full storage snapshot integration only exists for VMware, correct.
2. I would add a primary backup target with plain disks (disks in the physical server you mentioned with REFS). No inline deduplication appliance as primary target, if you like to have fast restore. I'm not sure what you mean with a backup proxy VM. That concept only exists for VMware. For Hyper-V, I always recommend on-host proxy.
3. I strongly recommend to avoid it (that's why I don't answer the question )
I recommend to look at the quick start guide for Veeam + Hyper-V https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/qsg_hyperv/
Best regards,
Hannes

Just for the sake of an answer:
3. Yes, correct. As for the documentation, then it is better to address this question to the storage vendor since they develop the hardware VSS provider. Veeam doesn't have any specific prerequisites in this sense other than the ones mentioned here.
