Hello,
Today I made the mistake of restoring over our production database while using the 'Restore to another server' feature. I'd like to request some product enhancements to help prevent this in the future.
My first request is to alter the behavior of the restore wizard when you select 'Restore to another server'. It defaults to the source server that you originally selected and I believe it would be beneficial if this was blank and required the user to manually enter the destination server name (See image one).

My second request is a confirmation window to appear before starting the restore process that provides information about the source server, source database, destination server and destination database. Currently there is no review screen and instead the last screen you view is the 'Specify recovery state' screen. This puts three screens/clicks between when I chose the destination server and the start of the restore.

Re: [Product Enhancement] Improve visibility of restore target during SQL Server restore
Hello,
and welcome to the forums.
First: it's sad to hear, that you restored over your production database.
For me it saves time to have the original server there, because I often restore a database with a different name to the same server. So that change would cause additional clicks for me and potentially very thousands of other customers. As the wizard asks "do you want to delete it", I think the protection should be "good enough".
What would be the goal of a summary screen? It adds another click (complexity) and would potentially have to ask again (do you want to delete?). That could upset many customers that they need to answer the same question twice.
Best regards,
Hannes
