Instance Licensing question

Post by andreash »

Hi,

sorry if this has been answered before. I tried to search the forum but could not find an answer.

This is my setup for this customer:
- One ESX-Host with a one socket perpetual VEEAM B&R 9.5 Standard license
- One ESX-Host used as Replication target without VEEAM license

For some reason the Replication Host now runs two Linux VMs as well, and they should be backed up.

Looking into the 9.5 licensing console I found one sockets and two instances. "Bingo, I'll back up these VMs using VEEAM Agent".
-> no. The Linux Agent 5.0 requires VEEAM 11

After installing VEEAM 11 the two instance licenses are gone though.
First time they showed up as "1 (2 Used)", now I have "1 (0 used)" but can not use this Instance license to back up one of the VMs.
The job fails with "Unable to process host because license limit has been exceeded."

I'd be fine to only back up one of the VMs as the other one is fairly static. But it appears the instance license can not be used for a Virtual Machine?

Is there a way to use this instance license for my purpose?

Kind Regards,
Andreas

You can't use a instance license for an agent, if there are socket licenses present.
The second ESXI Hosts needs to be licenses per socket.

Right - in presence of a Socket license, VMs can only be protected using one. If you want to protect your VMs with instances, you can migrate your Socket license to Veeam Universal License (VUL) by contacting your Veeam sales rep. Thanks!
