License merging VBE VBR VUL
Hello everyone,
I'm a little confused with the merge licensing rules.
We have a VBE 2 sockets perpetual licence including 2 instances.
We would like to buy 5 instances VBR VUL.
If I want to merge my perpetual VBE and my futur VBR VUL licences, do my instances merge too ?
I would like to keep my 2 VBE perpetual instances in addition to my new 5 VBR VUL instances in the same console.
Is it possible ?
Thank you,

If E stands for Essentials, then the answer is no, you can only merge VBE socket license with VAS VUL license. Thanks!

Re: License merging VBE VBR VUL
You have bought a wrong license: you need VAS VUL instead of VBR VUL.
VBE is essentially VAS for SMB, so it can only be expanded with VAS VUL.

[MERGED] Merge within Essentials
A long time essentials customer of ours wanted to add some NAS backup capabilities to his 6 socket stack.
Therefore he added some Essentials VULs to his assets.
Now we found out they do not merge to his Essentials Socket licenses: License types "do not match".
Is that something new? We merged Agent/VULs even in Essentials before several times.
Even in here https://www.veeam.com/licensing-policy.html I find contradicting information:
Veeam Backup Essentials: This product offering is not allowed for merging between License Types or with other products.
but also: Cannot be merged with another product license to scale above maximum limit of Sockets. -> so can be merged if not above?
Customer would stay beyond the limit.
What are the current requirements here? How can we get some NAS backups into an Essentials Enterise Plus socket license?
Thanks.

Re: License merging VBE VBR VUL
I have to bring that issue up again. Legacy environments are here to stay...
How would the said translate to the current portolio?
Assuming a customer has an older socket based Essentials Standard licensing with active maintenance. What current VUL will merge to it to enable backup of Agent/NAS data? There is no VAS VUL any more. The corresponding would be an Advanced VUL (including VONE). Does that merge correctly?

Yes, Essentials are effectively mini-Advanced (or mini-VAS in former naming) so it will merge correctly with Advanced VUL (VAS VUL in former naming).

Re: License merging VBE VBR VUL
Hi,
So, I can add 5 Advanced VUL to a 4 Socket Veeam Backup Essentials Enterprise, correct ?
I have two questions about:
- What happens of the 4 gifted instance ? are replaced by VUL (5 total instances) or added (9 total instances) ?
- If I have understood correctly reading DOCs and FAQs, it's possible to load two different license files in the VBE server, one for sockets and the other for VUL, it's correct ? Or I need to merge licenses into a single file ?

Re: License merging VBE VBR VUL
Hi, correct.
1. Technically they will be lost, but in reality there won't be any impact because paid VUL license usage can be exceeded.
2. Correct, Socket and VUL license can be loaded to VBR side by side w/out the need to merge them into a single file.
Thanks
