Linux Gateway Servers for Data Domain or StoreOnce ?

is there any technical reason why Linux Gateways can't be used for DataDomain or StoreOnce?

The role of a Dell Data Domain, HPE StoreOnce or SMB gateway server must be assigned to a Microsoft Windows machine.
