newsid or not newsid?

The creator of newsid (from sysinternals) pulled it 3 years ago and now says we don't need it!:

Now, I've just restored a copy of a server, it's powered up and off the netowkr (for the moment) - I was about to rename the restored VM and remove its domain membership (while it was off the network) Then create a new name and sid (using newsid) and join it to the domain.

I don't want to affect the original source VM which is still on the network.

What's your experience of doing this with/without newsid? A big problem?
