One server, Direct SAN proxy & front end to repository?

Post by HendersonD »

We will be installing Veeam in about 2 weeks. The hot link below shows my current design which has just one physical server for two different Veeam roles. This server will have Nimble Connection Manager for Windows installed
  1. Nimble Connection Manager will give the server access to the Production Nimble All Flash Array for Direct SAN
  2. Carve out a backup volume on the Nimble array in our DR site. Use Nimble Connection Manager to gain access to this LUN. Use Windows Server Manager to assign a drive letter to this volume
Veeam Design

Two questions
  1. Is this a sound design using a single physical server for two different roles?
  2. This physical server has four, 10 gig connectors. Should I use all four 10 gig connectors or is the pinch point how fast data can be read from one Nimble and written to the other one? In other words, network bandwidth with just two 10 gig connections is just fine

1. There is nothing wrong with having multiple roles on a single physical server as long as you have enough resources for the both of them.
2. I don't think all 4 will be used equally or to a maximum but this is best to be asked with the Nimble team to be sure.

Also in 9.5 we will integrate with Nimble so you can leverage snapshot replication if wanted.
