Oracle Backup: Multiple Databases with Different Oracle Home Dirs ORA_HOME

Hello to all database experts,

Question about Veeam Backup EE and Oracle on a virtual machine: I remember that backing up an oracle server / application aware processing with different Oracle versions installed is not supported / is not working.
User Guide:
"Configurations with different versions of Oracle Database deployed on the same server are not supported."

Is it possible to execute online backups of Oracle DBs on the same server with the same version, but with multiple ORA_HOME directories? Can they be enumerated?
My DB admin is planning to setup the DBs with different homes...

Hi Andreas,

Correct, this kind of environment is supported. The only strict requirements in this case are:
1. DBs should be of the same version;
2. The same account should be created for AAIP in all the databases residing on a single machine.

If you by any chance use Oracle Explorer your DBs with different homes should be properly populated in the UI.

I have the following question:
Is it possible to backup multiple Oracle databases in one VM if they have different home directories?

What I found in the forum about this is:
veeam-backup-replication-f2/oracle-back ... 55237.html

However, I can't find any reference in the Veeam documentation about this.
Are there any other restrictions or guidelines here?

Hi Florian,

The multi-home environments are fully supported as it's stated in the post above.

Multiple Oracle database versions deployed on the same machine are supported only by Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN and only for Linux or Unix based operating systems.
