Oracle DB restore timing out on shell commands

Post by DonZoomik »

Case #06088438

Got a really strange case where Oracle DB restore (classic from logs, not RMAN plugin) times out on primitive shell commands that complete practically instantly.
Commands like these (that don't provide any output in this scenario), constantly.

ps -eo pid,cmd | grep _pmon_ | grep -v ' grep '
newgrp 'oinstall'
export ORACLE_HOME... <-- this is where wizard eventually fails.

The commandds actually don't seem to time out - Veeam logs that shell has returned (empty [user@srv]$ prompt) and Veeam is trying to Ctrl+C the command as if it's expecting something...
Running on Veeam V12 latest patch.
As a theory - the server is running on probably the fastest x86 server CPU that the money can buy (AMD Epyc 9174F), could it be feasible that the server is too fast for Veeam? Such bugs are not unheard of over the years.

Anyone noticed anything similar?

Hi Minkel,

I don't think that the issue happens because the server is too fast, it's an interesting assumption but I'd be surprised if it was true. As far as I understand, the engineer proposed to collect the extended logs and I think this is really the best idea for troubleshooting at this stage. Let's wait for what our support team can find out.

Thanks!
