Hi All,
I am using Veeam backup and replication and am backing up twice daily on incremental backups to a NAS drive. However VEEAM seems to keep all the old incremental backups and never overwrites them, so I end up filling up the NAS drive and backups starting to fail. Is there a setting I am missing when creating the jobs?
I have set restore points to only 2, so I don't know why it keeps so much.
Phil

Re: Overwrite old backups
Hi Phil,
Basically, this "issue" comes down to the basics of incremental backup, and has nothing to deal with Veeam... previous increments cannot be deleted, because following increments depend on them. You will see the previous full+incrementals backup chain deleted once the new full backup is created according to your full backup schedule, and the new chain has 2 restore points in it.
If you want to keep only 2 restore points, your best bet would be to switch to reversed incremental backup mode.
Thanks!

Re: Overwrite old backups
Phil, if you need more detailed explanation on the number of restore points stored with forward incremental backup mode, it is available here. Thanks!
