Hi all -
I need to password protect a VM (and the associated data from the VMDKs) that I'm Veeam-zipping and shipping to a DR location, does Veeam have any built-in capability? If not, what do you think would be the best way to accomplish the protection of the data?
Thanks!
James

Re: Password protect Veeam ZIP files
James, there's no such built-in capability currently, so you need to use some third-party tool to protect the backup file. Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

Re: Password protect Veeam ZIP files
Furthermore, in order to cope with everyday routine of setting password for veeam-zip files using the 3-party tool, you might want to script the whole process. This example demonstrates a way to automatically zip various files into a password protected zip file, using PowerShell and 7-zip.
Note: Of course, 7-zip isn’t something very reliable in case of data protection, however, this instance might give you a little bit more understanding on how automation should look like.
Additionally, you can use Full VM Copy functionality and specify the script, or more specifically, bat-file responsible for setting password as a post-job activity.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
