Currently we use a VM proxy server that uses Appliance Mode (hot-add) when backing up VMs. Our VMs live on an EqualLogic SAN. Now we are running out of space on the backup target I was thinking of getting a big physical box (eg Dell 730XD loaded with big disks) and using that as a proxy. It would plug directly into our EqualLogic SAN and access the VMDKs in DirectSAN mode. The backup target would be the local storage in the box.
Does that sound like a reasonable plan?

Re: Physical proxy server for B&R 7?
Definitely, you will have a LAN free backup then. Feel free to ask if you have any questions while configuring Direct SAN access.
