Please Improve The Support Information > Export Logs Wizard

Post by Daniel N. » 2 people like this post

I recently implemented SOBR Offload to S3, and having nightmares since. These offload jobs produce countless errors. I've opened multiple cases already to troubleshoot these issues. Which is how I identified some urgently needed improvements on the Export Log wizard.

1) For SOBR Offload jobs, there currently is no simple way to export the logs and I have to search through various folders on several servers to grab various log files, to zip and send them to your support staff. This is very, very time consuming. There really needs to be an addition to the log collector that includes the Offload logs.

2) Add the option to the Export Log wizard to upload the jobs directly to your SFTP once done. This could be achieved e.g., by entering the support case ID into the log wizard, so it can automatically attach the logs to the case, once collected. Or even link the backup server to my Veeam account, so that I can use the Export wizard to select a case ID to attach the logs to.

Hello,

1) Hmm, when I had issues with offloading, I used "export all logs" and selected all involved components. I never had to search through folders manually.
2) Agree on the idea in general (it came up already a couple of times). Does your backup server have internet access? Because for security reasons, backup servers often don't have internet access. So that feature would only help a few customers.

Best regards,
Hannes

1) Well, I didn't know that "Export All Logs" works as I've always been asked by Veeam support technicians to just d the SOBR log folder. But my criticism still stands. "Export All Logs" is like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. It takes a crazy amount of time and creates a multi-gigabyte archive. Just for fun I let it run while replying to your post and it already collected 35 GB of logs before it stopped due to no space left of the partition. That is simply not necessary. Is this too difficult for Veeam to implement?

2) Our backup server has no internet access, but SFTP to *.sftp.veeam.com is allowed through the firewall. "So that feature would only help a few customers." Those customers would be happy to have that feature.
