I have a building with an esx host with 5 VM's
They are replicated to another esx host in another building for DR purposes
every 4 hours. However I want to know what happens with the ESX server in
the main building dies?
Can I bring up the VM's in the DR building up and have users work on them
temporarily util the main buildings ESX host is fixed/replaced? Is that what
the failover option is?
Or is the only way to do it to restore an entire machine back from the latest
backup back the othe main building once the main buildings esx host is sorted?
Also I have Veeam Backup and FastSCP 4.2.1
I bought it 2 weeks ago - Can I confirm that I will get the upgrade to the next
version which has the restore a single email message facility in it? I u hnderstand
it works with files at the moment, but the next version does email's much much
better? And SQL also.
Thanks a lot
PS if there was an idiots guide someone could point me at, that would be handy.
The help file is a bit spares on detail.

Re: Recovery on backup esx host if mainesx host fails
Hello, yes - the scenario you have described is exactly what our replication is designed for. Failover is what you should use in case of disaster.
You will get free upgrade to v5 Standard Edition only, this edition does not have facility for application item restores. For more information, please refer to stickied v5 FAQ.

Re: Recovery on backup esx host if mainesx host fails
Rats. My reseller told me that if I bought it, I'd get a free upgrade to the that version.
Apparently there was on offer on? What can I do about this? Pursue them?
I am very keen to get the ability but dont want to have to spend dundreds more to get it?
That was one of the reasons for getting veeam over vreplicator. Thanks

Yep, talk to your reseller I guess, because free Enterprise upgrade promo for standalone backup purchases ended on June 18. Current promo requires purchasing Management Suite to get free upgrade.
