Retention on old backup jobs/

Post by trackstar »

Guys,

I have a few jobs that are no longer running and have been disabled. They were backup jobs from vCenter 6.5. (environment no longer exist). When I went to Backups --> Disk, I still see the backup jobs with the VMs and number of restore ports (42). It has been over 110 days now since we ran those backup jobs. As long as my backup directory and backup jobs are still there, there isn't time clock that will make it obsolete/delete them? Those backup jobs never had GFS retention configured (only number of days specified for retention policy.

We are on vCenter 7 now. Just making sure.

Thanks,
TT

Hello,
correct, there is nothing that applies retention if the job is not running.

In V11, the GFS restore points would be deleted, if the backups are orphaned (meaning the backup job does not exist anymore). In V12 we extend that in a way, that also orphaned daily backups will be cleaned up. This is always for orphaned backups only!

Best regards,
Hannes

Is there a way in Veeam to Change the retention for completed backup jobs ?

Example :
SERVER1 was set to retain data for 30 days and is backed-up on a daily basis.
After a month the administrator is notified to change retention of the job which ran mid-month to 1 year.

Can these adhoc changes be made to the system ??

Hello,
and welcome to the forums.

Adhoc changes to retention of an existing restore point can be made by exporting the backup https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

On REFS / XFS, export does not take up any space https://www.veeam.com/blog/advanced-ref ... suite.html

Best regards,
Hannes
