Retention policy and INC backup

Hi,
I have a really quick question but it is a little bit detail.
When I set 3 retention points on my backup job, is it gonna delete older backups before or after backup third one?
because if I set retention points on my active backup time, I should leave big space to backup everything. but maybe it deletes before backing up on last day of retention policy.

Maybe we have a person who already tested and experienced it.

Assuming you are using forward incrementals, the merge & transform process happens after the backup runs. In other words the backup occurs, creating a new incremental, then the oldest incremental is removed. The full process is outlined here.

Even with reversed incrementals retention policy is applied at the end of the job run, making sure you have enough restore points to be compliant with a configured retention policy.
