retention policy for scale-out

for example when i create new job and set retention policy = 5 and do backup on scale-out repository with performance mode (full backup on one extent and inc backup on second extent now retention policy =5 is means sum of backups on extent1+ extent2 had to equal=5 or on each extent we have 5 backup from that vm ?
