Script / Automate Backup Proxy Installs

Hi All,

Somewhat larger environment where we have upwards of 100-150 VM's per host with 38 hosts. We are looking for a way to automate the deployment of Proxy's on an as needed basis across our hosts to scale the backup environment. If we were adding a handful of proxy's to a couple hosts every now and again I would not have a problem running through the GUI. But when we scale, we want to create equal proxy's across all hosts for consistency.

I know you can script the automated install of backup management or repo installs, but I do not see anything specific to proxy servers.

Anything I am missing?

PS: in most environments 150VMs are covered with one physical machine doing all backups (just to make things easy)

Thank you for the references, I will check them out.

FYI - upwards of 150 VMs per host. We have around 5000 VMs in the environment, approximately 3800 of which are being backed up daily, an additional 1500 or so are being handled as needed or infrequently.

It deploys a full VBR and everything you need via Terraform, you could modify it to only use the proxy part. This would allow you to deploy the VM's from template and configure them as a proxy.
