Secondary target question

Post by csinetops »

We've had some backup jobs running with Secondary target (backup copy) selected for a while now, works great besides one oddity.

I have the backup jobs set to have a secondary target attached to a backup copy job. The backup copy job is set to run any time. It was my understanding that doing this, the backup copy job would kick off right after the backup job was done.

What's happening is the backup copy jobs are all kicking off at 12AM. So, even if I have a backup job that finished at 6PM with new restore points, the copy job doesn't kick off until 12AM. This is causing the backup copy jobs to all run into the next day finishing at 11AM or so.

Is this correct by design or is something goofy with my jobs?

Can you specify what your interval is? I guess on the first tab you have configured it to run at 12AM? (1 day starting at 00:00)

Have a look at https://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/vsp ... erval.html for more info on how to optimize this. For example if you change it to "4 hours" the interval will be every 4 hours instead of waiting till 00:00.

Thanks for the info. So is it not possible to kick off the backup copy right after the backup job completes? I thought that was the function of setting a secondary location.

You need to change your Backup Copy interval start time to 6PM as well, then it will work the way you want it to work.
