SQL transaction log issue

Post by balma01 »

I scheduled a backup job of theSrepoint VM containing a SQL server, including a backup of the SQL transaction LOG every 15 minutes.
When the job runs it ends well, the transaction log backups starts and runs every 15 minutes and it says: database protected 0, database unprotectd 0, database excluded 18 (18 DB from my sharepoint)
But I have a SQL database that must be protected and I do not see it....
When the VM backup job runs the second time, the transaction log backups starts again and it found database protected 1, database unprotectd 0, database excluded 18.
It seems that my database is 'discovered' just after the second incremental backup of the VM.
Any idea?

Hi balma01,

Do you see the said DB being backed up every successive job run or it’s sporadic? Can you clarify, how log-shipping server for SQL backup is configured?

Logs backup doesn't make any sense without the entire VM backup and there's still no valid VM backup when the backup job starts for the first time. Basically, logs backup job should start collecting logs during its second session, when the parent backup job has already completed. However, there's a known issue in v9 that it doesn't occur and this will be fixed in the next version.
