Switch Feature?

Post by ekisner »

It would not be hard at all to implement an SSH-based server-side backup of switch configurations. Such would be an interesting way to automate and consolidate backups of switch configs.

I use Cisco, so I'll use them as an example. Establish a basic (T)FTP server on the B&R server, then SSH in and copy the startup and running config. Such a job would take but a few seconds to run, be simple to implement, and extend one's influence into an entirely new sector with very little development expense. Adding in the functionality to replace the running config with a backup copy would be simple as well.

It's very much out-of-scope of virtualization, however, so are physical agents. I see Veeam becoming more of a "back up everything" solution these days, which is why I make this suggestion.
