Test backups on a second ESXi host
Hi!
I'd like to know if is possible to install a Veeam Console outside the production network, in a separate , protected, Lab enviroment with a 1) PC with Veeam Console installed and 2) A second VMWare ESXi host, all completely isolated from the production network and then take the last backup from the production environment (previously copied on an external drive) and restore it on a second ESXi host for the purpose of test it.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.

Don't see a single reason why this shouldn't work.

Hi foggy.
Thanks for reply.
Must the console in anyway communicate with the prsoduction ESXi server?
In other words, may I install the console outside the production network withou any kind of communication between the Lab's network and the Production's LAN ?

Re: Test backups on a second ESXi host
For restores to a third server, you can use an entirely separated Veeam B&R instance that doesn't have access to the production environment. Note that it would be a full-blown Veeam B&R instance, not just the console as the latter requires access to the Veeam B&R server.
Btw, you can even perform restores without installing Veeam B&R at all.

Re: Test backups on a second ESXi host
That means a completely separate installation of Veeam Backup and Replication server with nothing in common with original VBR server that took the backup in the first place.
Note we have VBR Server and VBR Console. VBR Server part is the core that actually processes backups, VBR Console is a mere client for connection to VBR Server. It won't make much difference if you install console in a different environment as VBR Server will remain the same.
As long as VBR Server has access to both networks(production + isolated one) it will be able to run backups and restores cross-host.
/Cheers!
