This is one of those things I don't want to bother opening a ticket for but wanted to mention.
I had a 12.1.0.2131 VBR server/environment. This afternoon I upgraded it (just completed, need to go through everything else). Before and after the upgrade, I took screenshots of services and programs/features to then compare any changes. This was inspired by what was reported by another admin in this post and people explaining that new plugins/services are installed by default.
For me, what I noticed after the installation is this on my installation:
There's a new service called "Veeam Backup Update Service"
Somehow, the Veeam WAN Accelerator Service became installed on my server even though it wasn't present there before (nor do I believe it was ever part of this VBR server's installation, but I could be mistaken). Even stranger is that the version in programs & features shows as 12.1.0.2131 and not 12.1.1.56.
Kinda weird on both fronts. Especially weird to install a new service (Update Service) but not have it in the release notes. Maybe QA could try to repro on their end.
- "Veeam Backup Update Service" is indeed a new service since v12.1.1. The service will be used by v12.1.2 and later versions to support the upgrade process to a newer version of Veeam Backup & Replication. The service runs locally and doesn't connect to the internet. It only requires a connection to the configuration database server of your backup server. I have already asked our user guide team to document this service in the user guide.
- "Veeam WAN Accelerator Service", I don't see it in my lab and I don't have an WAN Accelerator deployed. Please contact our customer support team to investigate it.
