V12 RTM StoreOnce immutability bug?

Post by lienkristian »

Is this a bug with v12?

Trying to enable immutability with the StoreOnce Image
It worked fine in the BETA but not in the RTM

For all technical issues including those related to the v12 RTM build please always contact Veeam Support directly. Thanks!

Hi Kristian

I reported it internally. I can see the same behavior in my lab.

In the StoreOnce Catalyst Store, have you configured the "Maximum ISV Controlled Data Immutability Retention (Days)" to 365000 days?

@Regnor
No. The value is correct. In my case 10 days.

On the StoreOnce side you have to configure the value I've mentioned to 365000 days. On the Veeam side you can configure whatever immutability you like.

Yes, it works with 365000 days. But it's unexpected behavior.
An administrator must be able to configure his own Max Value.

This is by design due to a requirement to accommodate GFS restore points: those might have years of retention, which can cause issues with the "Maximum ISV Controlled Data Immutability Retention (Days)" setting being configured as a lower value. So we've added this new check post-beta.

Ok, so it is expected behavior with 1000 years retention on the StoreOnce side?

You configure the retention in Veeam. The value in StoreOnce is only the maximum possible retention you can use with Veeam.

- Immutability for short term restore points is specified in the repository properties in Veeam.
- GFS backups will be immutable for their configured retention time.
Example: If you configure monthly GFS policy to 12 monthlies, each of you monthly backup will be immutable for 12 months.

Same behavior as on a hardened repository today.

Right, this setting on the Catalyst Store side is not the immutability period, it is just the max value that the period set in Veeam B&R might reach.

Superb, changed the StoreOnce side to be 365 000 and everything is working fine. Thank you for the update.
