V7 Won't Install on Server 2008 SP2 x64

Post by neckbone »

Hello,

I am trying out Veeam B&R for the first time, installing the V7 free edition. I am putting it on a VM that is running Windows Server 2008 SP2 x64. However, I can't get through the install. I get an error that reads...
Veeam Backup Catalog requires Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows 8,or Windows 2012.
Am I missing something here?

Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam, no idea what is missing here, but you should be able to simply deselect catalog in the setup options, as it is not used in the Free Edition anyway. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply, Gostev. Unfortunately, the installer does not allow the catalog option to be deselected.

Just out of curiousity, why aren't you using 2008 R2? I know it might simply be that you have a 2008 license and not an R2, but in my experience R2 fixes so many problems with applications that vanilla 2008 is dead to me.

Does Veeam B&R even support vanilla 2008? I only see R2 in system requirements.

EDIT: It apparantly supports 2008 SP2.

I don't have an R2 license for this particular server. It should work, though. The system requirements for B&R V7 list both 2008 and 2008 R2, the only caveat being that it needs to be x64, which mine is.

You might be right, I might be thinking of older versions, but v7 had the setup completely. Anyway, we will be able to investigate the issue for you with the setup log, so please open a support case and reference this topic. Since you are using the Free Edition, the support will respond based on availability (this may take some time).

P.S. Yes, it definitely should work. Perhaps this is not a clean OS install, and some 3rd party software is disrupting our setup.

I am getting the exact same error. Was there a resolution to this?

There is no case ID provided by OP, so I cannot check for the resolution. Please contact our technical team directly to investigate this issue further.

It was resolved. In my case, it was because I was installing it on a domain controller. The support rep sent me an alternate installer file that worked.

The case number was 00502764.
