VBR 10 & Proxies batween SAN and 10g ethernet
Hello everyone, I hope you can help us, here is our problem : we have a VMware (vsphere 6.5) environment of 200 machines with SAN (Fiber Channel) storage, we will be using VEEAM BR V10, we want to install an Exagrid or Quantum appliance as the main repository, however it is not possible to use the SAN (Direct Storage Access) feature with our proxies because the appliances don't support it, we can't use the production home network either because it is only 1Gbps. The idea would be to create 2 physical proxy servers (as a gateway) with on one side a Fiber Channel connection to access the virtual machines/storage and on the other side a 10Gbps Ethernet connection to access the Appliance, could you tell me if this configuration is correct?

Hello,
and welcome to the forums. Sure, that's a valid setup.
Maybe a note on Quantum as it is an inline dedupe appliance (Exagrid has a landing zone which is different): we recommend fast "normal" storage as primary repository https://www.veeam.com/blog/what-is-the- ... cture.html
(inline) Dedupe appliances are more for the secondary copy: https://www.veeam.com/blog/how-to-follo ... ation.html
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: VBR 10 & Proxies batween SAN and 10g ethernet
To answer the initial question.
Yes your configuration is correct.
You need at least one server in this setup that has FC HBAs and will read by DirectSAN or Backup from Storage Snapshot from the source Storage (Veeam Proxy Role).
When you add Quantum or Exagrid to Veeam our datamover runs directly on the storage system.
The Dataflow would be:
Storage => FC => Veeam Proxy Server with FC HBAs => Ethernet => Exagrid/Quantum with Veeam Integration (Datamover that will write locally).
