Veeam 7 - backup or copy job without WAN acceleration?

Post by mikegodwin »

I have a customer with V7 Standard, so no WAN acceleration. They have off-site backups. With V7 is there any advantage to switching to a backup copy job without WAN acceleration, or should I leave it as is (regular off-site backup job over VPN)?

Assuming they are running two backup jobs today (one local, one offsite) then switch to a Backup Copy job may very well be useful if for no other reason than to eliminate the second snapshot. Also, the Backup Copy has some additional options that can perform integrity checking of the offsite backup files.

Moreover, direct backup copy jobs provide the ability to implement GFS retention (keeping multiple full backups on certain schedule) to enable long-term backup archival. In case of common backup jobs, GFS scheme can be only achieved thorough the usage of PS.

Thanks.

And one more thing for the backup copy jobs, they happen outside of your backup window, so it does not matter how long they run (allowing to use slower secondary backup storage).
