Hi there,
i know there are some threats about Copy jobs, and i have read some white paper and some of the threats but i have to ask how veeam is handling this Backup scenario:
I have a Backup Job which is backing up some VM's with following settings:
- Incremental
- Enable Synthetic Full (every day)
- Transform previous full Backup into rollbacks
- Perform Active Full on Friday.
AND after this a copy job to other location is done.
Day 1
Create a FULL Backup
all-VMs.vbk -> will be copied to other location, everything is fine
----
Day 2
Create a Incremental Backup
all-VMs.vbk
all-VMs.vib (at Backup time)
THEN Transform Incremental to FULL and Create RollBack (Reversed Incremental)
all-VMs.vrb
all-VNs.vbk (NEW FILE Transformed)
What will be copied during copy job? Both Restorepoints (Plenty of TBs) or only the VRB (loss of FULL) or something like a diff between the two Fulls (source/Target) + the VRB?
I am doing Transforms every day because when we tried to do it only on weekend and had 6 Increments each around 200-300GB it took longer than 38 hours (we had to stop then, it wasn't finished).
I am asking because we have here around 2.5 TB Backup and i have to duplicate this to another location but when i have to transfer each day 2.5 TB then i can do a second backup job to that new location.
Thanks
Thomas Voß

Re: Veeam 7 Copy Job and Synthetic and Transformed Restorepo
Thomas, please review this post, should answer your questions. However, feel free to ask if you need any additional clarification.
Also, I’m wondering why you are using daily synthetic fulls with transforms as just switching to reversed incremental mode will give exactly the same scheme?
Thanks.

hi foggy,
thanks for the link to the post. Now i know how it works.
To your question: Oh, yes your are right. Same scheme...
Do you know if the Reversed Incrementals on Backup are as fast as the normal incrementals?

Forward incremental mode provides the least level of I/O load on the backup storage, while both reverse incremental and forward incremental + transform have higher I/O penalty on the backup storage. Here is one of the good existing posts regarding this.
