Veeam and Synology server

Post by eli1233 »

Hi to all,

Objective:
file backup on determined folder on SAN Synology RS2416RP+.(The NAS is the data source, and not the backup repository)

DSM 6.0 is a customized distro of linux, and it have a big castration. To ensure the correct execution of veeam backup, I had do the following steps:
-On DSM, I modified the "Advanced Settings" in Low value on "Control Panel>Terminal & SNMP>Terminal"
-On DSM, I checked "Enable User home services" on "Control Panel>User>Advanced"
-On DSM, I installed Perl package on "Package Center"
-On Veeam Backup & Replication console, I added the NAS server on "Backup Infrastructure>Managed server>Linux" using admin credential(root user it's inutilizable(I don't know why))

Now I have occurred in a problem, when i try to add a "Tape Job>Files", in "File and Folders" tab, i choose the Linux Server, but when I click on button "Add...", the system freeze, and after loong time return the following error:
Failed to start PerlSoap protocol

Error in elevating to superuser

Timed out waiting for operation "(cd /tmp; sudo perlveeam_soapfb7d130b-5795-4416-9c58-dac01164c28e.pl -d -c -l libfb7d130b-5795-4416-9c58-dac01164c28e -e /tmp/veeam_errorfb7d130b-5795-4416-9c58-dac01164c28e 2>> /tmp/veeam_errorfb7d130b-5795-4416-9c58-dac01164c28e) || cat /tmp/veeam_errorfb7d130b-5795-4416-9c58-dac01164c28e 2>&1", timeout: 100000 ms

What can I do to resolve this problem?

Yes, there is a known problem with an interaction between Synology and Veeam, no matter if it's a repo or source. Veeam linux datamover requires some specific Perl modules in order to work.
What can I do to resolve this problem?
You can add some server that has an access to your NAS into VBR console and then choose in that server in "Files and Folders" step and type UNC path to your share as a source.

Thank you.
