Hi,
I'm planning to use Veeam for our DMZ network.
Network connections to the vCenter, the ESX-Hosts and the repository will be present.
From what I know and what I tested, a Network connection to the VMs OS is not neccessary.
The OS interactions by using the network connection to the ESX-host and the VMware tools is one of the best features.
My question is:
Are there any scenarios where a network connection to the VMs OS is needed?
I could imagine that it will be neccessary for Exchange 2007 mail item restores for example - Is that true?
Are there any other reasons?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Cheers, Timo.

Re: Veeam in DMZ
Correct, VIX API (provided by VMware Tools to access guest OS where direct network connection is not available) can be used to backup VMs and to perform file-level restores, however application items restore is not available without network connection to the target VM.
