We are using the Hitachi VSP G370 for our Veeam Repo, But normal backup talking considerable time and resources and we would like to use Storage Snapshot, but to my knowledge there is no plugin available for Hitachi storage. We have contacted Veeam Support they said it is the Storage Vendor who make plugin and give it to Veeam QA for testing, since Hitachi didn't make any plugin for Veeam yet so we cannot provide you any plugin. Then we contacted Hitachi Support according to them
The Hitachi VSP Gxx0 Storage Arrays provide a CLI interface (HORCM), REST API interface and also HDID Array REST API to interface with and operate/integrate the array copy functions. If you can ask Veaam to work on this.
Now we need to use Storage Snapshot with our storage, so we would like to know what is the solution for this?
Hi Muhammad, the word 'repo' confuses me since the repository is where you store backups while you're talking about source array where your VMs reside, right? Our support is correct, Universal Storage API plug-ins are developed by storage vendors so this sort of request should be directed to them. Please refer to this post for more details.
Btw, what are the bottleneck stats reported by the backup jobs? Please note that if primary bottleneck is not source, then storage integration wouldn't improve overall job performance.
Thanks for your reply. I meant that an RDM disk is attached to the Veeam VM and we are using that drive as our Repository. When backup job run, Server Resources (specially CPU) utilization increases exponentially and takes considerable time to take backups, so we thought by using Storage Snapshot, it might balances it out and backups may occur in less time. But we came to know that our Storage plugin is not available.
Storage snapshot functionality in Veeam B&R refers to the integration with source production storage that hosts vSphere datastores where VMs reside, not with the target repository that stores backups.
