Veeam's SQL Server Database

Post by wa15 »

Hello all,

Question: Is it possible to have multiple versions of Veeam use the same SQL server instance? For example, for our Veeam servers at remote sites, can I have them point back to the main Veeam server at the main site and use that SQL server? This way we don't have multiple instances of SQL to manage.

Thanks!

Yes, I don't see any issues with sharing the same SQL Server instance between multiple backup servers. Thanks.

Simply use different names for the various Veeam Databases so that they don't conflict and you can easy identify who is who.

Thanks! Thinking more about this; and I am leaning towards doing a stand alone SQL server for each backup server so that in case the WAN connection is down; Veeam B&R is still functional and we can do restores.

Good point. And since each Veeam B&R installs its own SQL Express instance by default, there's not much actually to manage.
