Good afternoon,
I've been using this tool: https://calculator.veeam.com/vse/
And I understand it's supposed to be a rough estimator of what would be needed to support various workloads, but I'm finding my sizes are about 3x larger than they should be. I believe it's because this tool doesn't account for forever forward incremental backups and assumes every week I will take a full backup - this is shown through the Results > Repository Requirements > selecting the repository > reviewing the Workload estimator.
Anyone else use the VSE and use it to estimate local backup sizes for an RPO that's forever forward incremental?
I'd love to attach the .json export or screenshots to show you what I mean, but in short, I've got about 35TB of data backing up to a local NAS locally for 90 days and it's actually occupying about 30TB of space. However, when I plug all of the variables into the VSE, I see an estimation of 115TB of data needed (almost a factor of 3.5x different than what's actually used). The root cause of my using the tool is my client is asking me to estimate the disk space requirements of a NAS in a satellite office, and they have some strict SLAs for GFS to adhere to, and I want to give them as accurate of an answer as possible. Given the 3.5x difference, I think I'm using the tool wrong or there's no capability for VSE to factor in FFI backups, or something else. Let me know what you think, and thank you!

Re: Veeam Sizing Estimator Tool Discrepancy
Hi Colter
I can see the same.
Even with a profile of only daily backups, the calculator assumes that there will be a weekly full backup.
I will discuss your feedback with our VSE team.

Best,
Fabian

Hi Colter
Have you tried the calculator with FastClone enabled or disabled repositories?
For forever incremental, you could use "FastClone enabled" as a workaround.
Please note, we plan to release an updated version of the VSE. But I don't have an ETA yet.
Best,
Fabian
