Very fast Backup very poor restore 14 hrs !!!

Post by pesinet »

Hello guys,

I am testing the Veeam Backup and I have some questions. The backup is very fast (36 GB VM ~10 mim) but the restore is very poor ( time remaining 14 h). I don't think is a normal rate. Can you help me with that issue?

Hello Yanko,

Could you please specify what is your restore target? Also it would be interesting to see what rates you get if you upload some large file to the same destination target using vSphere Client's datastore browser.

Thank you!

I would expect 36GB VM to take around 1 hour to restore in worst case situation (restoring to ESXi, or ESX without service console agent). So the test Vitaly suggested would be a good way to start troubleshooting.

Also, see link below for a great analysis of restore speed, and ways on improving it:
Veeam Restore Speed

But again, even without any workarounds you should be getting at least 5-10MB/s restore speed even in worst case scenario. So I suggest troubleshooting the actual upload speed with vSphere Client first.
